Derwen Newydd provides supported accommodation to homeless people who wish to lead an abstinence-based lifestyle.
Derwen Newydd is an 8-bed residential house for people who are committed to leading an abstinence-based lifestyle. The project is a drug and alcohol-free environment. Residents that are here are either waiting to go into rehabilitation or have completed residential rehabilitation and are looking for support to rebuild their confidence, health and relationships before moving onto living independently in the community.
Staff support residents here to maintain abstinence. The project provides a weekly structure of activities and learning opportunities that residents can join in with or lead on as they wish. Communal living areas as well as self-contained bedsits allow residents to cook and socialise together if they wish.
There is wifi and residents have access to computers, a pool table, gym equipment and table tennis. There is a garden area with seating and pond and residents are encouraged to become involved with maintaining this and adding their own ideas. There are shops and a post office within walking distance of the project as well as quiet country walks and parks.
A floating support service also operates from Derwen Newydd, providing ongoing support to people in the community who have substance misuse issues that put them at risk of homelessness.
