After 13 years and some incredible experiences – from winning BBC’s Last Choir Standing and the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special to scooping a Classical Brit Album of the Year Award and performing to a global TV audience as the Cauldron was lit at the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics, the regenerated Only Men Aloud is in demand with audiences across the country.
2015 was a very busy and successful year for OMA. During the Spring and Summer, they undertook a UK wide tour which saw them perform over 30 dates in various towns and cities, right across the country. During the Summer, Only Men Aloud were back in the studio, to make their 5th album; Only Men Aloud On The Road. In December, they headed back out on to the road for their sixth UK Christmas Tour, which has become a much-anticipated part of people’s festive schedule.
However, throughout 2016 the group will be supporting a cause very close to home.
Only Men Aloud have teamed up with Welsh homelessness charity, The Wallich, in a partnership which will see the group members taking part in various fundraising events and activities throughout the course of the year.
The Wallich supports almost 5,000 homeless and vulnerable people across Wales every year, getting people off the streets, keeping people off the streets and creating opportunities for people to re-engage with their communities and re-build their lives after experiencing homelessness.
Craig Yates from OMA says:
“We are delighted to support The Wallich as our chosen Charity of the Year for 2016. The work they do in preventing homelessness is inspiring, and we can’t wait to be involved, be it fundraising, spreading the message of what they do, or helping out in the day to day running of the charity.”
The charity houses people who have been street homeless and who have nowhere else to go. They help women who have suffered domestic violence. They support young people leaving the care system, Soldiers leaving the army and many others who have fallen on hard times. They are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Zoe Westerman, Strategic Corporate Relationships Manager for The Wallich, says;
“We are so proud that Only Men Aloud have chosen The Wallich as their charity of choice for 2016. Their charity work over the years has been incredible, and their energy is infectious. We have lots of exciting events and challenges lined up together which will enable the group to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of vulnerable homeless people, right here in Wales. We can’t wait to get started!”
The first thing that the members of OMA will be undertaking is a day of volunteering. The group will be helping out at various Wallich projects across Cardiff, including an early start handing out breakfast with the Rough Sleepers’ Intervention Team, learning about homelessness and meeting the people supported by the charity.
More news will be announced soon.
