The project supports prison leavers who will be potentially homeless on the day of release

Torfaen Prisoner Release Empowerment Project (PREP) provides preventative support to homeless people involved in the criminal justice system.

The PREP Connect Worker assesses and works with individuals whilst they are still in custody with the aim of securing accommodation prior to their release, preventing them from becoming homeless upon leaving prison.

The individual will be assessed to identify whether they are able to reconnect with family, if there is any priority need, specific physical, or mental health needs and any substance misuse issues.

We then work with local partners to try and secure the most appropriate accommodation available. This includes local authority, supported housing, registered social landlords and the private rental sector.

To ensure a positive resettlement on their release the PREP Connect Worker will also offer advice and make referrals in relation to any healthcare needs and drug or alcohol issues that may effect the individual sustaining a successful transition from prison to accommodation.
