Volunteers Week at Leckwith allotments

The Wallich celebrated Volunteers Week from 1 – 12 June with a range of activities involving staff, service users and corporate supporters.

We shared an update of Stuart’s story, asked volunteers to explain why they volunteer, discovered what chickens and volunteering have in common, had an advert and editorial with the South Wales Evening Post and hosted a Volunteers Day at our allotments in Leckwith with our WISE clients and corporate partners Source Insurance and DAC Beachcroft Claims Ltd.

We’d like to thank everyone that supported the event including Co-Operative in Cardiff for providing lunch and Sian at Source Insurance for taking wonderful photos.

Luckily the sun shone for us and everyone had a great day, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what the staff at Source Insurance and DAC Beachcroft Claims Ltd had to say:

Source Insurance

“I really enjoyed meeting the people that The Wallich are/have helped.  Listening to their life experiences and how they are rebuilding their lives and helping others was humbling. It was a great setting for this and it was good to give something back in a small way.”

Julia Langdon, Project Manager

“When can we do it again!?! Not only was the weather fantastic, so were the people we worked with. It was inspiring to hear about the lives of service users of The Wallich and what a difference they are making not only to their own lives but others in similar situations. Extremely grateful to have been a part of such a brilliant day.”

Lizz Shipston, Sales Support Supervisor

DAC Beachcroft Claims Ltd

“It was a great opportunity to meet people who benefit from the charity and was nice to hear how grateful they were for our involvement. It was great that we had good weather too”

Lisa Ratcliffe, Disease Claims Supervisor

” I thoroughly enjoyed the volunteering event. It was a pleasure to meet people who worked for The Wallich and people who had been helped by them. It was touching to listen to some of the stories that were told by people that have been helped by The Wallich and you can see the positive impact that it has had on their lives. It was great to be a part of the team on the day and feel like we were giving something back to the community. It is definitely something I would do again!”
