Smart Skills is a pre-employment programme that provides opportunities for people in Cardiff with low skills to gain employment.
The project delivers pre-employment training and qualifications while also providing participants with practical, on-the-job experience through volunteering and work placements. The project works in partnership with local employers and training providers to offer industry-standard qualifications, mock interviews and ‘taster days’ to those who have been unemployed for some time.
Places on the scheme are offered to homeless people receiving support from The Wallich as well as people receiving support from other local organisations, with the aim of preventing instances of homelessness. The programme is tailored to helping those who have experienced homelessness and further support is provided to help participants sustain employment once they have found it.
The Skill Scheme project has been supported by the European Social Fund through Welsh Government and the Active Inclusion Fund, managed by Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA), to raise skills and help people into work.
