Cardiff’s new fun and welcoming choir involving people with experience of homelessness and marginalisation

We are excited to launch this new choir, in partnership with our friends at the Choir with No Name.

We can’t wait to welcome along people impacted by homelessness and marginalisation in Cardiff.

The choir is free to join, and no singing experience is necessary, just turn up.

We sing all kinds of music, including pop, soul, rock, reggae and more.

The Cardiff choir is based on the idea that singing in a choir makes you feel good, is a distraction from day-to-day life, and allows you to be part of a fun and welcoming community.

Rehearsals will run from 6pm – 8pm every Tuesday at Butetown Community Centre – Docks, CF10 5UZ

What to expect from Choir With No Name

Hi, I’m Alex, and I’m the Choir Manager for the Choir with No Name Cardiff. I’ve spent over 25 years working across music, the arts, charity fundraising and healthcare but the common thread through all of it is community and making a difference. I love creating welcoming spaces where people feel supported, included, and able to shine.

Music has been part of my life for more than three decades. I’ve performed in concert halls across the UK and abroad, including several appearances at the Royal Albert Hall, and I’m also the Band Manager of a brass band in Cardiff. I enjoy bringing people together through music, whether on stage, in rehearsal, or in the heart of a community.

I am delighted to be working with The Choir with No Name Cardiff,  a truly special community choir that provides a safe, welcoming space for people who have experienced homelessness and hardship.

Singing together has the power to improve wellbeing, build confidence, and create a real sense of belonging and here in Cardiff, that’s exactly what you’ll find. It’s a family. It’s joyful. It’s uplifting.

With inspiring leadership from Iori Phillip Haugen and superb accompaniment by Benjamin Teague Music, every session is something to look forward to. And to top it all off, we end each rehearsal by sitting down together for a free hot meal, generously provided by our amazing volunteers.

If you know someone who might benefit from joining, or if you’d like us to sing at an event or collaborate on a concert, please do get in touch, I would love to hear from you!

Although there is no pressure to attend, it would be helpful if service users (or their support workers) could let us know if they plan to attend the first session.

The choir is open to people from any service, not just The Wallich.

“Everyone is super friendly and welcoming that it comforts me, whatever my mood. I find it helpful emotionally, stabilising me whenever I am down.”
