Supported housing scheme in Pontypool

Pearl House houses 15 people at a time when they have experienced rough sleeping or other forms of homelessness in Torfaen.

The refurbishment, carried out by Hedyn (formerly Melin Homes), who own the building, includes incredible environmentally-friendly features.

The building features solar PV panels for energy efficiency and innovative low-carbon heating solutions.

Residents stay at Pearl House for up to six months while they are assisted with help to move onto more long-term accommodation.

Support we offer

Residents can expect fully furnished apartments.

Each apartment has a bedroom, en-suite shower room and toilet, and a working kitchen, dining and living room area.

The Wallich provides a basic move-in kit: bedding, a set of cutlery etc. for every resident.

Pearl House is staffed with expert homelessness Support Workers 24/7.

We work with residents on next steps for housing and support with wellbeing, budgeting, mental health, substance use, learning, training and employment.

At Pearl House, we provide wellbeing and diversionary activities to help boost confidence, skills and opportunities to move forward and reduce the risk of returning to homelessness.

Residents have access to The Wallich’s innovative added value services such as Gwent BOOST and creative arts.

At The Wallich, we work with additional agencies to provide specialist support tailored to the individual’s needs.

The Wallich believes that people who have experienced homelessness and hardship are individuals, with varied and different support needs.

It is proven that their successful recovery can be benefited by living in a Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE).

Referrals to Pearl House are made via Torfaen Council’s Housing Gateway team.

“Moving into Pearl House is life changing, because it’s stability and I can function normally.

I have been homeless for 4 years and it has been hell, so this is really going to change my life.”

Anna-Marie, Pearl House resident
