Today is World Homelessness Day, an international day to raise awareness and encourage local communities to help those who are experiencing homelessness. We believe in a Wales where people stand together to provide hope, support and solutions to end homelessness and this is why we’re asking for your help this winter.
It’s 7pm. The winter nights have drawn in. It’s dark, it’s cold, and for someone sleeping rough it’s going to be a long, dangerous night. It doesn’t need to be this way.
We need to keep the lights on in our Nightshelter this winter for people who are sleeping out in the cold.
At 7pm, The Nightshelter is opens its doors and offers a warm welcome to 23 people in our community who would have otherwise slept rough this evening. For them, the Nightshelter provides an alternative. Warmth, comfort and safety. And this is just the start.
The Nightshelter offers so much more than just four walls and a safe place to sleep. Our team of dedicated experts are there to provide support, comfort and advice. Over an evening meal, we talk about their day, and begin building the relationships and trust that will help support people to take their next steps out of homelessness.
The Nightshelter is an essential service within our community and can be the starting point for people beginning their journey out of homelessness. But without your support, this vital service will be at risk.
Every year, we need to raise £89,000 to make sure this vital service remains available to offer a safe nights sleep for people who would otherwise have no option but to spend a night on the streets in Cardiff.

Throughout the winter, our campaign will shine a light on the work of the Nightshelter, on the issue of homelessness and the stories of those experiencing it right now. We’ll also be giving you practical advice on how you can help.
Rough sleeping is a national emergency and a community response to homelessness is the only way to end this national crisis. Together, we can ensure this vital service will continue to be there 365 nights a year – including Christmas day – to support those most in need, when they are at their most vulnerable.
