The Wallich launches 2026 winter fundraising campaign to create turning points for people facing homelessness across Wales

09 Oct 2026

On World Homelessness Day (10 October), The Wallich has launched its Winter 2026 campaign, highlighting how small acts of kindness can become life-changing turning points for people experiencing homelessness across Wales.

Every journey away from homelessness has moments that can change everything.

The moment someone escapes an unsafe situation. The moment someone accepts support for the first time. The moment someone turns the key in the door of a place they can finally call home.

These moments happen because someone chooses to help.

This winter, The Wallich is inviting people across Wales to support those facing homelessness by making a donation that could help create those crucial turning points when they are needed most.

Your gift today could be the turning point.

Dafydd’s story

When Dafydd* arrived at one of The Wallich’s hostels after a period of rough sleeping, he had no belongings and needed support to begin again.

Thanks to supporters, The Wallich was able to provide essential clothing and everyday items to help him settle safely into accommodation with dignity.

What may have seemed like a small act of kindness became the first important step in Dafydd’s journey away from homelessness.

With ongoing support, he began rebuilding his confidence, reconnecting with others and preparing for a home of his own.

When Dafydd was ready to move into independent accommodation, practical assistance with household essentials helped him transform an empty property into somewhere he could truly call home.

His story demonstrates the difference timely support can make when someone is given the opportunity to move forward.

Small support, lasting impact

Every day, people turn to The Wallich after experiencing homelessness, relationship breakdown, financial hardship, domestic abuse, poor health, or other personal crises.

Donations help ensure support can be offered at critical moments.

This winter, money raised could help:

  • Someone fleeing domestic abuse reach safety
  • A person arriving at a hostel with only the clothes they are wearing
  • Someone moving into their own home to get essential household items
  • A person rebuilding their life feel connected through activities that reduce isolation and build confidence
  • People accessing services feel welcome, supported and part of a community

These are often small interventions, but they can have a lasting impact on a person’s future.

How your donation could help

This winter, we’re encouraging supporters to donate to help ensure The Wallich can continue responding when people need support most.

  • £25 can provide emergency essentials when someone has nowhere else to turn
  • £50 can help fund activities that reduce isolation and build confidence
  • £100 can help someone moving into their own home with the essentials they need to start again

Every donation helps create opportunities for people to move from homelessness towards a safer and more independent future.

Together, we can make a real difference this winter, and you might even be one of our lucky winners.

Christmas Appeal

Alongside our winter campaign, we’re helping make the festive season brighter for people who may otherwise face Christmas alone or without the means to celebrate.

With your support, we can provide a traditional Christmas meal for people living in our services, creating an opportunity to come together, share good food, and enjoy a sense of community during what can be a difficult time of year.

Every person will also receive a small Christmas gift, a simple but meaningful gesture that reminds them they are valued, remembered and cared for.

While these may seem like small acts of kindness, they can make a lasting difference.

A shared meal, a thoughtful gift, and the chance to celebrate alongside others can bring comfort, dignity and hope to people who might otherwise spend Christmas feeling isolated and alone.

Learn about homelessness

Homelessness can happen to anyone, yet it is often misunderstood. Behind every statistic is a person with their own story, facing challenges such as rising living costs, poor health, domestic abuse, relationship breakdown or a lack of affordable housing.

By learning more about homelessness, we can challenge stigma and build a more compassionate Wales.

Louisa Ashfield, Head of Fundraising at The Wallich said:

“Homelessness is a challenge we’re working to tackle every day of the year, but winter can be an especially difficult time for many of the people we support. Colder weather, shorter days and the pressures of the festive period can make an already difficult situation even harder.

“Donations are vital in helping us respond when people need us most – whether that’s providing practical essentials in a crisis, creating welcoming spaces, or funding activities that help people feel connected and part of their community.

“We’re proud to play our part in tackling homelessness across Wales, but we can’t do it alone.

“We’re asking individuals, businesses and community groups to get behind our winter campaign and help us create more turning points for people facing homelessness.”

Be the turning point today

Homelessness is not the end of someone’s story.

With the right support at the right time, people can rebuild their lives, reconnect with their communities and move towards a brighter future.

This winter, your kindness could be the turning point someone needs.
