Merthyr Bond Board

Merthyr Bond Board support people on a low income to find privately rented accommodation and afford their deposit

The Bond Board issues bond certificates or cash bonds, which cover the cost of a deposit on a privately rented flat or house.

The tenant is then expected to save through a Credit Union Savings Account. While in your tenancy, the amount of the bond can be saved in smaller payments each month – providing you with the next bond on a property or paying for any damages that may occur when you leave. Please ask for further information regarding this.

The decline in social housing and rising house prices have caused more competition to rent privately in Wales.

Upfront payments – including bond monies and rent in advance – make Private Rented Sector (PRS) accommodation unaffordable to many people on low incomes.

OTHER SUPPORT

In addition to providing financial support, the Bond Board supports tenants to move and resettle.

We also help build a positive relationship with local landlords.

We provide mediation and problem-solving if the relationship between a tenant and the landlord breaks down.

By helping people with their deposit and improving tenant-landlord relationships, we hope to help prevent homelessness across Merthyr.

To make a referral to the Bond Board, please contact Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council.

Referrals for support can only be made by the council.
