Wrexham Doorstop

Wrexham Doorstop is a medium supported accommodation and floating support service for people who live in Wrexham

Wrexham Doorstop aims to equip people with the skills and support they need to move forward with their lives, make positive connections in their communities, and sustain independent living.

Who is the service for?

Wrexham Doorstop service is for those aged 18 and over with generic, substance use needs or individuals with an offending background who are currently experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.

This includes the following people:

• Single people aged 18 years and over
• Have support needs related to substance use
• Prison leavers

The service is based on a person-centered approach to encourage service users to achieve positive outcomes such as new skills and confidence to live more independently.

The service is delivered by way of supported accommodation or ‘floating support,’ i.e., in their own homes, across all tenures.

Support is tailored to the individual, ensuring that each client’s needs are taken into consideration.

The support will cover areas such as:

• Reduce evictions and risk of homelessness
• Support people to develop life skills which enable them to live as independently as possible in their own homes
• Support people to maintain abstinence and reduce harm from drug and alcohol use
• Be preventative to reduce demand for other services such as health and social services
• Complement the social or medical care needed by individuals
• Be service user led
• Reduce the likelihood of criminal offending behaviour
• Reduce debt and encourage economic progress
• Help to mitigate the impacts of welfare reform
• Signpost people to services which provide opportunities for education, training, volunteering, and employment
• Integrate people within their communities
• Decrease anti-social behaviour
• Reduce social isolation and associated risks of relapse
