St John’s Hostel

St John’s Hostel offers safe temporary accommodation for people experiencing homelessness in Wrexham

St John’s offers six beds for people in Wrexham who are experiencing homelessness. 

Residents have their own bedroom and access to shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. 

St John’s Hostel has a garden with outdoor seating. Residents can relax outside, as well as getting involved with gardening activities. 

There is an activities room for residents to use to relax.  

All residents have access to a Senior Support Worker, who will be with them on their journey all the way.

The hostel has a mix of genders and residents. Pets are also welcome to move into the project, with agreement beforehand. 

St John’s Hostel is very well established in Wrexham, helping people who have experienced homelessness for many years. 

More than 100 people have called St John’s Hostel home and many have now moved on to independent living. 

The staff at St John’s Hostel regularly put on activities for the residents to participate in.

Support workers help residents to:

• Develop independent living skills required to maintain a tenancy 
• Gain access to other services such as healthcare, benefits, training and education 
• Develop self-confidence 
• Learn budgeting skills  
• Learn cooking skills  
• Attend appointments to external services such as GP, hospital and mental health services  
• Have fun and relax by putting on activities such as music quizzes to days out in the Welsh mountains 

The Wallich believes that people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness are individuals with varied and different support needs.

Research shows that their successful recovery benefits from living in a Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE).

We want to provide innovative and trauma-informed services which match people to support which suits them. 

As we build our relationships with residents who we support, they feel safe to share more about their stories.  

The Wallich has a counselling service, called the Reflections Network, which residents can access to address issues and make long term, positive change, ensuring they don’t return to homelessness. 

All referrals for St John’s Hostel come directly from Wrexham Country Borough Council Gateway homelessness team.
